        ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today that Thomaston in Upson County will be home to a new biorefinery demonstration plant, the result of a partnership between Diamond Alternative Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Valero Energy Corporation, and American Process, Inc. (API).

        Alpena Prototype Biorefinery Awarded DOE Grant.
        &lt;/b&gt;
        &lt;br/&gt;
        American Process has been awarded an $18M DOE grant for the development of the Alpena Prototype Biorefinery (APB) to be built at the Decorative Panels International mill in Alpena, Michigan.   The project has also received a $4M state grant from the Michigan Center of Energy Excellence.
        &lt;br/&gt;
        &lt;br/&gt;
        The purpose of the APB project is prove in a pilot-scale the conversion of a waste stream to cellulosic ethanol.
        &lt;br/&gt;
        &lt;br/&gt;
        The APB project, to be completed by the end of 2011, will produce 894K gal/yr of cellulosic ethanol, will result in retaining 200 jobs, and adding 10 permanent jobs.

        American Process has entered into a collaborative agreement with the Sniace Group in Spain 
        to study the viability of producing second generation ethanol (cellulosic ethanol) in the 
        cellulose pulp mill plant that Sniace owns and operates at Torrelavega, Spain. The final aim of 
        this collaborative agreement is the construction of an industrial plant to produce second 
        generation ethanol.
