Troubleshooting describes the most frequent problems encountered in apiMAX.
The scope is to support the user to track down and to resolve the technical problems
encounterd.
Updater
Error message: "apiMAX application is running!"
Problem:
apiMAX updater does not start and a message is displayed: "apiMAX application is
running! Please close apiMAX and click 'Retry' to continue!"
Resolution:
Make sure that apiMAX application is closed. The updater may need to replace several
files and this is not possible if they are in use. If apiMAX is not started, open
the Task Manager and check whether the apiMAX process is not running. Stop the process.
If the error message persists, restart your computer.
Error message: "apiMAX Updater has detected that Background Intelligent Transfer
Service is disabled".
Problem:
apiMAX updater displays an error message: "apiMAX Updater has detected that Background Intelligent Transfer Service is disabled. In order to run the updater please enable/start this service from Administrative Tools->Services."
Resolution:
BITS is a windows service used by apiMAX Updater for the transfer of files asyncronously.
The service needs to be started. Open the Control Panel | Administrative Tools
|Services and start the service.
Error message: "There are currently no active network connections. Background Intelligent
Transfer Service (BITS) will try again when an adapter is connected".
Problem:
When starting automatically, on Windows 2000, apiMAX updater displays an error message: "There are currently no active network connections. Background
Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) will try again when an adapter is connected".
Resolution:
Start again the Updater and the error should not be displayed anylonger. If
this is not the case, please contact apiMAX support center.
Error message: "The file could not be replaced because it's already in use by someone
else".
Problem:
The following error occurrs while running the Updater: "The file "" could not replaced
because it's already in use by someone else".
Resolution:
The file may be in use or it is marked read only. Please make sure it is not open and uncheck the ‘read-Only’ flag.
Error message: "The underlying connection was closed. The remote name could not
be resolved."
Problem:
The following error occurrs when the apiMAx updater is starting: "The underlying
connection was closed. The remote name could not be resolved".
Resolution:
The connection to the apiMAX download server is lost. Please check you network status
or contact your Administrator. If the problem persists, contact apiMAX support
center.
Updater Error 407: "Proxy Authentication required"
Problem:
The following error may occurs when starting the Updater:
"The remote server returned an error: (407) Proxy Authentication required".
Resolution:
The error may be due to Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 online features (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910804).
Contact your Administrator to ensure that you have the rights to download files
in the network.
Application
Error message "Failed to open model" when trying to open a composite model
Problem:
When trying to open a composite model an error message is displayed: "Failed to open model". An unhandled error message may be displayed, and the application crash.
Resolution:
Close apiMAX. Open the Explorer and navigate to the application installation folder.
Open the project folder and rename the composite model. Start apiMAX and open again
the composite model. If this was included in a project, you have to add the model
again to the project.
Application is not responding after Copy/Paste in Symbol view
Problem:
If you try to copy/paste an equipment in the Symbol view, the application may become
not responsive or it may exit.
Resolution:
When a composite model is created it is opened in the Symbol View. If you want to copy/paste
another equipment, you should change to the Method View. See here an example.
Error on creating project in a network path
Problem:
When you try to save a project or a model on a network path, you recieve an error
message.
Resolution:
The model, its project and its composite models are a package and when something
is missing the model does not work. This is the reason why you should not try to
save the model or any of its components on different paths or on a network path.
Registry error when trying to install an older version over v.2.40
Problem:
If you try to install an older version over apiMAX v2.4 you will get an error message
during installation.
Resolution:
It is not possible to install an older version over a newer version. That is, you
cannot install apiMAX v2.3 over apiMAX v2.4. If you want to do this, you should
uninstall the existing version, and then install the older version.
Zoom toolbar is not working in Print Preview mode
Problem:
Zoom toolbar is not working in Print Preview mode.
Resolution:
The zoom toolbar has no functionality in Print Preview mode. You can use the Zoom
Out and Zoom In buttons.
Outlet Pressure for Heater cannot be set higher then 10 atm
Problem:
You want to set the outlet pressure for a Heater to a value larger then 10 atm.
The value is saved in the properties dialog. But when you run the equipment, the
outlet pressure is set to 10 atm on the flow.
Resolution:
There is a limitation in apiMAX v2.5 for the outlet pressure to 10 atm. This is
related to the Ethanol solution processing. You should not set outlet pressure higher
than this value.
Out of memory exception
Problem:
After you run several large models, such as MillWide, apiMAX may generate an out
of memory error.
Resolution:
Close apiMAX. Open Task manager and verify that the apiMAX process is not running
and that memory was freed. Restart apiMAX and continue working on the models. It
is suggested that you run one model and that you restart the application before
running other large models.
apiMax process is running in background
Problem:
In certain use cases, after you close apiMAX, it remains running in the memory.
You can check this by opening Task Manager. This may cause problems when uninstalling
the application or when running the updater.
Resolution:
Open the Task Manager and kill the apiMAX process.
Compound_Equipment Project is installing, but it is not registering in apiMAX
Problem:
Compound_Equipment Project is installing, but it is not registering in apiMAX. It
is not displayed in the Projects tree.
Resolution:
You can register this project manually.
Interaction with Excel
Modification in the excel file name affects the way apiMAX calculates
Problem:
Modification in the excel file name affects the way apiMAX calculates.
Resolution:
Edit the stream properties makes the Excel to save after each modification
Problem:
You create one DDE link from apiMAX to Excel. When you open Excel and try to enter a value in the cell or to copy/paste a value, excel will start saving automaticaly after cell changes.
Resolution:
Close Excel and reopen it after you exit from apiMAX application. If you remove
the apiMAX DDE link you will be able to modify the Excel without automatic saving,
while apiMAX is started.
